The Importance of Prayer

Prayer is really important in keeping oneself close to God. It’s our means of communication to Christ, where we pour out our heart with all its fears, failings and hopes. One of my favourite scriptures that I regularly need to reflect upon is Phillipians 4:6 – 7. It reads, ” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When I’ve failed as a mother, when I’ve just had enough, when others have let me down and when I’m struggling with Noah’s diabetes I try to simply focus in on this verse, ‘Do not be anxious‘ … ‘by prayer and petition‘. For me, it makes all the difference to have the peace of God resting upon my heart and mind.

When Noah was diagnosed with diabetes, the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8) came to mind. We would pray for Noah’s miracle every single day, persistently. We wouldn’t leave God alone until Noah was healed or a cure was found.

Noah is so amazing with it all. He prays for healing and he prays for ‘everyone in the whole world with diabetes’ to be healed. He doesn’t focus on the ‘why’ and the ‘it’s not fair’ attitude at all. He seems to have a heart that knows God’s will and purpose in this challenge he must face.
