Frequently Asked Questions
The initial assessment is to ascertain the literacy needs of your child. A number of phonemic skills tests are administered as well as a standardised spelling test. A report is then prepared, presented and a recommended plan is outlined. From here, we can discuss how best to proceed to meet the needs of your child. This assessment needs to be carried out face to face.
A standardised reading test can also be administered; however, this is not essential. This test takes an additional 30 - 45 minutes.
Lessons are typically delivered in person at my home which is located in Wellard, Western Australia. I am also able to provide online lesson delivery using Zoom and a dedicated online phonics whiteboard program that is interactive and follows the same systematic explicit instruction approach used in face to face delivery. Online delivery has its benefits and may be suitable for your situation and child.
Occasionally and when available, lessons can be provided in your home. A travel fee is charged and calculated based upon kilometers travelled. For example: a travel distance of 20 minutes will cost an additional $30. This amount is to cover the travel costs.
Hourly rate: $70
There is a face to face component and then a preparation component to my fee structure. The preparation time is kept to a minimum as I have developed systems to keep this time efficient.
I have endeavoured to offer package options that are more economical if you commit to more time per week. Spending more time each week working on language and literacy development will see greater gains in a shorter period of time.
Initial Assessment This payment is due on the day of the assessment. Follow up lessons are to be paid two weeks at a time, in advance.
Billing An invoice will be sent every three weeks. You can pay directly via the invoice. Payment is expected 7 days from the invoice. If you are having issues with payment, please contact me to discuss.
If for some reason, I need to cancel a lesson, a make up lesson will be offered. You will not be charged if I am unable to deliver a lesson.
If you have something unavoidable come up and need to cancel a lesson, I won't charge for that lesson as long as I know in advance (24 hr notice).
You will still be charged if you are unable to notify me ahead of time. I will have made preparations for the lesson and set aside time to deliver the lesson.
If continual cancellations occur, I will not be able to continue with tutoring your child. I am frequently asked about tutoring availability and need to prioritise my time with students that are consistent with attendance.
